So you’ve just bought your new home. Now what? There are so many things to know about and take care of. You’ve saved and waited for this moment; you don’t want to throw your investment away. One of the biggest investments you made in your new home is the flooring, specifically the carpet. It looks really pretty and new now, but it definitely won’t look that way forever if you don’t maintain it.
So what are some signs that it’s time to get your carpets cleaned?
Visible Spots or Darker in Heavy Traffic Areas
As you live your life, spots and spills happen; it’s the sign of activities and fun. But when the spots are catching your eye, or there’s dirt on your carpets, it’s a good indicator that it’s time to get a cleaning.
Recent Sickness
If someone in your home has been sick in the last few months, those germs can linger in your carpet fibers. Steam and our all-natural cleaning solution can deliver the kick to the curb that those germs need, so they’re not lingering and possibly making you sick.
Remodeling or Construction
If your home has recently undergone construction or a remodel, lots of sawdust, dirt, even paint particles can be lingering in your carpets. If the smell is bothering you, or if you’re noticing dust or dirt in your carpets, it’s time to get them cleaned.
Preparing Your Home for Guests
Whether you have someone coming into town, or the holidays are approaching, a carpet cleaning can add that extra touch and feeling of cleanliness. Also, if you’ve already had a party and you’re looking to refresh your space, a carpet cleaning is always a good idea.
It’s Been 6 Months or You Can’t Remember How Long Since Your Last Clean
At TruRinse Carpet Cleaning, we recommend getting your carpets cleaned every 6 months. Our approach, combined with consistent cleanings, you’ll get sick of your carpets before they need replacing. Consistency is the definitive key to maintaining your carpet and its value. And if you can’t remember the last time you had your carpets cleaned, that’s also a great measuring tool.
We can tell you: If you don’t remember, it’s probably time.
So now that you know the signs of a carpet that needs to be cleaned, what are things that you can do to get your carpet clean, and how to maintain that cleaning?
1. Don’t DIY:
There are lots of tips and tricks you’ll find online for quick carpet cleaning, but many of them do more harm than good. Lots of carpet cleaning products you’ll find at the store contain harsh chemicals that aren’t good for you, your family, or your pets.
These things can include:
- Bleach or chlorine
- Glycol ethers
- Phthalates
- Formaldehyde
- 1,4-Dioxane
If you see any of these ingredients on the back of a product, it’s not the one for you. These things could do permanent damage to your carpets, leading to them needing to be replaced sooner than you hoped or expected.
You can also run the risk of over-scrubbing your carpets, especially if a product suds a lot. You’ll find yourself having to rinse, scrub, rinse, scrub, and repeat. If these products get left in your carpets, they’ll attract more dirt to the area, so it’ll only exacerbate your original problem. You might also have to soak your carpets to get the suds out which can damage your carpet pad, and even the flooring underneath.
If you find that you need to spot treat your carpet, we suggest getting an all-natural cleaning solution, like our Spotter Bottle, that contains natural ingredients and enzymes like sea salt, minerals, and soft water.
Our solution is amazing, sometimes we are even surprised at the spots we can get out. Just this last week we removed a spot that someone had four other cleaners try to get out in the last few years, and our solution did the trick.
2. Frequent Care:
We highly recommend vacuuming your carpets often. Making this a part of your weekly routine ensures that buildup doesn’t occur in your carpet fibers. If you’re regularly vacuuming, that also means you’ll see spots as they occur, and you can get them cleaned up while they are still small.
Spot treating doesn’t replace a professional carpet cleaning, but it will help maintain your carpets between cleanings, and can sometimes prevent permanent staining on your carpet.
3. Call a Professional Carpet Cleaner:
A true professional will know the best and simplest ways to get dirt, grime, and all the stuff that doesn’t belong in your carpet out of your carpet. Hiring one saves you time, money, and back pain, not to mention potential hassles down the road. A professional carpet cleaner can ensure that your carpet has been truly cleaned, and truly rinsed.
We also have access to carpet protectant and other quality ways to extend and maintain the value of your carpet, rugs, upholstery and even your tile & grout.
